I tried out a fixed focal length lens for an afternoon as an exercise in doing photography properly. I learned that depth of field is very dependent on distances. This should have been intuitive, but ...hey ho! The lesson is that I mustn't assume wide open is always best for a nice blurry background. When taking photos from just a foot away, I really need to be above F2.8 to get most of a small flower in focus!
I'm trying out new raw developing software - Darktable. The Olympus software is slow beyond belief and has become too painful to use.
These are 2 copies of the same image, processed differently. They don't seem to have the same "pop" as I get with the Olympus software, but this is a learning issue.
I'm using new software (Darktable) to develop the images. They seem to have come out a bit pasty. This photo needs rework - it was much more vibrant straight out of the camera!!
